Privacy issues and Apps stealing the data are not new in the mobiles after Smart mobiles came to use.But now, people are facing the similar issues with the Smart TVs also. Off late, chinese Smart TV’s are began to enter the Indian and US market. One of the brands Skyworth has confirmed that some of their TV modles are snooping upon the users.
But they have already shifted the blame to third part app Called “Gozen Service”. This app is called big data app and primary role is to collect and analyse the data related to the OTT services.
This data breach has came to light after some users poster in the Chinese developer forum stating this app collects following additional information.
Skyworth TVs owned by consumers scan the Wi-Fi network every few minutes to collect data about other devices also connected on the same Wi-Fi, and this included device names, IP addresses, network latency and other networks in range.
Now the company has informer that particular app has been disabled. But there is no clarity whether there was any snooping happened in other countries besides the issue that happened im China.
In India, Skyworth has acquired German TV maker “Metz branding” .It is not sure whether this brand also had the issue.
