Russia fines Twitter for not removing illegal content

Fight between Russia and Twitter is increasing day by day. Earlier, Russia has slowed down the speed of the twitter for not removing the posts related to drug usage and porno material. Also, they came down heavily on the social media companies for allowing the content which fueled the protests against the government. Now, a Russia fines Twitter for total amount of 8.9 million rubles, about $117,000 for three violation. A Russian court ordered the fine for three breaches. Twitter though offered no comment on this and they have 3 months time to pay the fine.

Rift between twitter and the Russian authorities are going on for sometime as the Russian govt wants the social media company to disallow the content related to drugs and porno materials while Twitter maintains that they don’t allow illegal content or support drug usage. On one hand, normal twitter user will find the Russian govt is right about the porno materials. There are thousands of handles which posts the porno materials every day and even some users post photos that not belongs to them ( photos taken out from other Handles). This issue is not addressed by the twitter so far.

If they have strict policies even AI mechanism should be enough to block porno pics and videos which they don’t do in the name of Freedom of Speech. Russia fines Twitter should set the trend and other governments must come down hard on Twitter and other Social media companies which allows porno materials. Even Facebook is not tough on this area while they remove text related posts they are doing little to curb the porno posts
